Dog-Friendly Places on Prince Edward Island: Where to Eat, Play, and Explore with Your Pup

Prince Edward Island is a super welcoming place for traveling with your dog. You won’t need to pick between spending time with your dog and soaking up the sun on the beach or enjoying local PEI seafood. During my visit, we discovered some awesome dog friendly patios, trails and treats to keep your pup happy while you soak in those island vibes. Here’s some of our favorite dog friendly places on Prince Edward Island. If you are planning a visit you won’t want to miss:

Dog-Friendly Restaurants on PEI

Fin Folk Food, Tracadie

Located near Tracadie Beach, this restaurant has a casual, laid back vibe with big windows to look over Tracadie Beach. Go for a beach walk, have a meal at Fin Folk Food and finish off with some ice cream nearby. The restaurant itself is dog friendly, so your pup can stay next to you indoors. Their team was so friendly to dogs and they even have a dog photo wall that your pup can be the next star on! This was the only restaurant that was fully dog friendly on Prince Edward Island. With a variety of food available, amazing view and live events, make sure a visit to Fin Folk Food is only your list!

Check their website to see their schedule: https://finfolkfood.ca/

On the Dock, North Rustico

This seafood spot right by the harbor has a dog-friendly patio offering breathtaking views of Rustico Harbour where you can enjoy lobster rolls, fish and chips, or local PEI mussels while your dog watches the boats go by. They were incredibly welcoming, there were shaded and sunny spots and the food was amazing!

Unfortunately On the Dock is only open seasonally, call or check their website https://onthedockeatery.com/ if you are visiting in the colder months.

Lone Oak Brewing Co. (Borden-Carleton & Milky Way Patios)

While we only visited Lone Oak’s Milky Way location, I’ve been told that the Borden-Carleton location is dog friendly as well. The Milky Way location has a large dog friendly patio in the back with views over the Graham Rogers Lake. It was a great spot for hanging out with friends before walking over to Cows for some ice cream.

During the summer season, there is also a Lone Oak Brewing Co. location with a patio at Avonlea village. Check their menu and hours for each location on their website: https://loneoakbrew.com/

Receiver Coffee – Victoria Row and Milky Way (Charlottetown)

This great café has outdoor seating where dogs are welcome. It’s perfect for a morning coffee and baked treat or cafe style lunch. We had both breakfast and lunch here on separate visits and everything we tried was good, our only regret was not getting there earlier to buy a fresh loaf of bread. Watch pedestrians pass by at both locations.

The Chip Shack (Charlottetown Waterfront)

Try some handcut PEI fries, lobster roll and/or fish and chips and sit at one of the outdoor picnic tables at The Chip Shack near the water. Dogs are welcome, there was a water bowl out and a small dog treat jar. It’s also close to a walking path along the harbour to work up an appetite or post meal.

In 2021, The Chip Shack was featured on Food Network’s Big Food Bucket List. The Chip Shack is only open seasonally, check before heading over if you are visiting during the colder months.

Lobster on the Wharf Restaurant, Charlottetown

For a seafood lovers paradise, head to Lobster on the Wharf in Charlottetown. They have a seasonally open pet-friendly patio overlooking the harbour. There are only a few tables so call ahead or go early so your dog can sit with you while you enjoy a lobster, lobster poutine or island crab cakes.

Check their menu or call ahead to confirm the patio is open if you are visiting during the colder months: https://lobsteronthewharf.com/food-drink/

Evermoore Brewing Co: Island Dining & Craft Beer (Summerside)

If you’re exploring Summerside, Evermore Brewing Co. has dog friendly patio seating while you enjoy mussels, pizzas or burgers. They offer their own craft beers and have entertainment such as trivia and live music. Check their website to plan your visit to coincide with one of their events: https://www.evermoorebrewing.ca/

Holman’s Ice Cream Parlour (Summerside)

While not a sit-down restaurant, Holman’s has beautiful outdoor grounds where dogs are welcome, and you can have truly homemade, small batch ice cream. After trying a variety of ice cream on Prince Edward Island, Holman’s was voted our personal favorite.

Check out their flavours here: https://www.instagram.com/holmansicecream/  and learn more about their history on their website: https://www.holmansicecream.com/

Dreadnaught Eatery (Food truck)

If you’re near Greenwich or the eastern side of the island, you have to visit Dreadnaught Eatery for a burger, fish and chips or their smoked mac and cheese. This is a food truck with picnic style eating. This was where we ate our favorite burger during our visit, which is not surprising because they are the Home of “The Leroy”, 2025 PEI Burger Love most loved burger.

Unfortunately they are only open seasonally. Check their website or their facebook page to confirm their hours before visiting: https://dreadnaughtpei.ca/ https://www.facebook.com/DreadnaughtEatery/

Pie Oh My (Food Truck)

If you are looking for fresh out of the oven pizza, you have to visit Pie Oh My. With dog bowls ready by their picnic tables, we loved it so much we visited 3 times. It does seem to be well loved and their hours are limited so this would be best for a lunch visit, as we did turn up once too close to 6PM only to find they had sold out of dough for the day.

During our visits, Pie Oh My was located at Red Head Harbour at the end of Red Head Road but I did hear the food truck moves to other locations during the rest of the year. Check their facebook as she also updates if they are sold out for the day: https://www.facebook.com/pieohmyinc/

Other Dog Friendly Restaurant Options:

  • David’s at Crowbush (Screened Patio or indoor bar area): David’s offers a dog-friendly screened patio with a view of the golf course and ocean breezes. When we visited it was a windier day and the team let us sit in the bar area which they considered part of the hotel, which is dog friendly. It’s a great hangout after a walk on the beach.
  • Club 19 (Patio): Another Rodds’ resort restaurant, this pub style restaurant patio overlooks the golf course and is near Brudenell River Provincial Park which is dog friendly, has a campground, beach, river, horse riding stables and a playground. Lots to work up an appetite.
  • Dalvay by the Sea (screened patio): It’s higher end but the perfect spot if you are exploring the northern part of Prince Edward Island. The views of the historic inn and surrounding dunes make for a peaceful meal. Keep in mind that Dalvay Beach is part of the Prince Edward Island National Park where pets are not allowed on the beaches between April 1 and October 15.

Dog Treat Windows & Pup Cups

  • Founders’ Food Hall (Charlottetown): They have a dog treat window for your pup and outdoor seating for enjoying your coffee, snack or meal from inside.
  • Pup Cups at Dairy Bars: This summer, many PEI dairy bars are offering “pup cups” (dog ice cream) as a fundraiser for the PEI Humane Society. It’s a fun, tasty way to treat your pup while supporting local rescue work. Check out Cows, Frosty Treat, and Holman’s Ice Cream Parlour for participating locations.

More Dog-Friendly Suggestions

Dog-Friendly Beaches and Trails

  • Thunder Cove, Lakeside Beach, Tea Hill: Great off-peak for quiet walks with your dog on leash.
  • Greenwich National Park: Dogs are allowed on leash on the trails, including the floating boardwalk but from April 1 to October 15 they are not allowed on the beach.
  • North Rustico Boardwalk: A gentle walk along the harbor and out to the lighthouse, dog-friendly and beautiful at sunset.

Extra Tips for a Dog-Friendly PEI Trip:

  • Bring a collapsible water bowl for beach and patio days.
  • Carry extra poop bags. Some beaches and trails have dispensers, but not all.
  • Almost all the beaches we visited had leash requirements, and keep in mind that dogs are not allowed on National Park Beaches during the summer months.
  • Most patios appreciate well-behaved, leashed pups and were happy to accommodate us but many patios had limited tables. Consider calling ahead to confirm space or going a bit early as restaurants get busy.

Exploring PEI with your dog is one of the best ways to experience the island slowly, with lots of snack stops, sandy paws and fresh air. Which dog friendly gems did you enjoy during your trip?
